La Gomera, one of the geologically youngest of the western Canary Islands, is an enchanted place where time seems to have stood still. The island’s landscape is an intricate labyrinth of valleys, ravines and canyons, dotted with basalt rocks of all shapes and sizes.

Once in the forest, take a deep breath. Feel the fresh, oxygen-rich, pure air nourishing your body and mind; the therapeutic effect is almost immediate. The laurel forest is an ancient, mystical forest that conveys a feeling of deep connection with nature and the world of old.

Full description of the activity

The tour begins with a pick-up from your hotel in Tenerife and transfer to the harbour of Los Cristianos on the day you selected when booking online. You will then board the ferry with the other participants, which will take you to La Gomera in 50 minutes.

Once on La Gomera, you will explore the most spectacular places and viewpoints while listening to the guide’s detailed explanations. La Gomera offers a breathtaking backdrop of peaks and ravines, reminiscent of a scene from the Jurassic Park films, formed over the centuries by volcanic activity.

The tour continues into the heart of the laurel or cloud forest, a stunning and unspoilt example of an ancient ecosystem found in few other places in the world. The laurel forest is characterised by beautiful evergreen deciduous trees up to 30 metres high, mosses, ferns and intricate canopies that let in very little light. The area is part of the Garajonay National Park and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986.

During the lunch break, you will have the opportunity to take part in a demonstration of the Silbo Gomero whistling language. Silbo is a special form of communication that only exists on La Gomera and is recognised by UNESCO as a masterpiece of the oral and intangible heritage of humanity.
