Description
Visit the main cities of Tenerife and the forests of Taganana
“In the city there are a thousand things I want to tell you”
Get a taste of the authentic Canarian lifestyle by visiting three of the island’s most important cities, each with its own character. Santa Cruz, the modern capital, is an impressive example of a coastal town with great architecture and excellent gastronomy. La Laguna, the former capital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999, is a unique example of a colonial city without walls. Candelaria is a historic town known for its beautiful basilica where the Virgin Mary resides.
The tour includes a visit to the Taganana area, the north-eastern tip of Tenerife, a geologically ancient mountain range that is home to one of the few laurel cloud forests in the world. A perfectly balanced excursion that combines the best of urban and rural Tenerife.
Full description of the activity
The tour begins with a pick-up from the hotel on the morning of the day chosen at the time of booking. Once everyone has been picked up, the bus will head north to Santa Cruz, the capital of Tenerife. In Santa Cruz you will have enough time to visit the city centre with its architectural features, shops, cafés and restaurants.
The second stop is in La Laguna, the former capital of the island, an impressive example of colonial architecture. The beautiful stone houses with wooden balconies, the narrow streets and the numerous churches that make up the city centre were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999. La Laguna is also a lively town with many bars, pubs and restaurants.
The tour continues with a visit to the Taganana region, located in the north-eastern part of the island. Taganana and the nearby Anaga Mountains are considered the geologically oldest part of Tenerife and are characterised by their wild nature and lush forests – a stark contrast to the rest of the island’s arid landscape.
The last stop is Candelaria, a historic village a few kilometres south of Santa Cruz. According to historical accounts, two Guanches, natives of the island, found a mysterious statue at the bottom of a ravine in 1390. When the first Christian conquerors arrived on the island, they identified it as a statue of the Virgin Mary, who later became the patron saint of the Canary Islands.
